Marketplace

Marketplace for Corporates

What is Marketplace?

Marketplace is a networking event that opens windows to potential relationships and connections between corporate, education and government organisations and community organisations. It is designed to be quick and creative, allowing organisations to collaborate in innovative, spontaneous ways. This is enabled by sectors coming to Marketplace with identified needs and wants, ways they would like to connect and importantly, an open mind.

Do we have to commit to a partnership?

No. The idea is to get to know what opportunities exist within the community sector. Obviously if a proposal is a good fit for you organisation, take advantage of it! We would love to see Marketplace grow effective partnerships that really address a need in the community.

Ways to Connect
There are many variations of how corporate, education, governments and community organisations can work together. The table below outlines examples of how this can happen.

Corporate Action
Example
Community Need
Outcome
Corporate volunteering An organisation allows employees to volunteer three days a year on company time. A group of employees wants to volunteer to make a difference to their local environment A section of land has been identified in their local community as an area in need of revegetation. The employees partner with an environmental not for profit to regenerate the area
Pro-bono services An organisation decides to provide their specialist services in accounting to a community organisation that works with disadvantaged youth A community organisation that provides for homeless youth require help to manage and report on their existing and future budgets. The organisation agrees to provide one employee to the community organisation for three hours at the end of each month for a year, to oversee their finances and provide advice for free.
Provision of resources An organisation wishes to donate unneeded computers, furniture and other equipment to a community centre. A local community centre is expanding its services and requires a bank of five computers and other equipment to set up for their new project. The organisation agrees to donate resources to the community centre so they can better meet the needs of the community.
Provision of office space An organisation has rooms that are not utilised during certain periods of the year (for example during mid semester at a university). The organisation would like to see these rooms utilized. A group of community organisations wish to conduct a community forum and are looking for a financially viable location. The two parties agree to co-host the community forum with input from both organisations to add to increase the forum’s exposure.

Creative Connections

Who knows what creative thinking may pave way for in an event like Marketplace? Some may intend to leave much to chance and opportunity during Marketplace. For those people it is good to at least consider the following before the event:

• Does your organisation have the resources to deliver?
• Will the opportunities presented be smart work or hard work?
• Who will make the connection happen?
• How will this new opportunity work within current priorities?
