bb's Community Futures

….building the capacity of the community through effective volunteer participation.

bb’s cafe Community Futures is a new initiative of Volunteering Queensland and the national volunteer centre network. The program works with community groups, helping them meet the needs of their clients through the development or enhancement of their volunteer programs.

Today, volunteers have higher expectations regarding the work they perform and the contribution they wish to make. Many are highly skilled. As a result, Community groups need to have effective volunteer programs to reap the potential benefits volunteers can bring to the organisation.

How does the program work?

Community Futures can support you to develop a volunteer program to meet your needs. The program is tailored to the individual organisation’s needs to provide practical assistance to achieve sustainable results, through one-on-one support.

The support services will vary for each organisation depending on needs but may include:
• Volunteer program information
• Resources and tools specifically for managing volunteers
• Mentoring, coaching and general peer support.
• Intergenerational Project Volunteering: Wii Sports.

What are the benefits?

Community futures builds capacity at two levels:
• Through an enhanced volunteer management program, and
• Through the development of staff who are supported, mentored and coached.

The regular support of a skilled, experienced mentor/coach can lead to better, quicker and more enduring results for your organization – and provide professional development opportunities for your staff.

Costs

Community Futures is provided as part of a suite of services to the community sector. There may be some costs associated, such as travel expenses, photocopying or other incidentals, which would be charged to and recoverable from the community organisation.
