Volunteering Better Than a Bank Balance

Special people, such as Rosemary Bailey, Volunteer for many different reasons and motivations; but they all have something in common - they want to change something. Be it the world, someone’s life, or their own life.

Rosemary Bailey who is currently a volunteer Angel with the Queensland Homicide Victims Support Group (QHVSG) has chosen volunteering, following unexpected tragedy in her life. Mrs Bailey’s family was destroyed by a double homicide where both her husband’s children were murdered.

“Out of a real fire came his little five year old granddaughter, who was left homeless and alone. As a result of this experience, I used volunteering as a way of helping others through the same ordeal, turning to Queensland Homicide Victims Support Group (QHVSG).”

“One of the things that the QHVSG does is a newsletter for victim’s families and friends. I saw this newsletter and there was an advertisement for volunteers, ” said Mrs Bailey.

Since then Mrs Bailey hasn’t looked back and her day-to day work at QHVSG consists of many exciting things including participation in detective training, awareness days and helping new members.

“A glance at the newspaper will indicate that we are always, unfortunately getting new members, and incoming calls often create new challenges” said Mrs Bailey.

“When I first started volunteering I was doing one day per week. Since then I have given up my paid job in the city and only do one day per week there. I have found that the wonderful people I work with, meet and help is far more rewarding than a bank balance,” said Mrs Bailey.
