Michelle
Thompson, 23 has been volunteering with the RSPCA since
2003 and said that personal tragedy led to her role
there as a receptionist.
Originally
having had a background in event management, Michelle
undertook a Volunteer role as a call centre attendant
and receptionist, answering all calls relating to animal
welfare, after a tragedy in 2003.
“When
I was robbed in 2003 I decided to adopt a puppy for
security. Kaiser was eight weeks old when I adopted
him – but two days after I got him he got sick
with Parvo,” she said.
Michelle
said that she was returning him for treatment and was
hit by a truck outside the shelter. “For the next
two weeks the RSPCA cared for my dog endlessly fighting
to help him live. He is know 2.5 years old and is my
best friend,” said Michelle
“I
wanted to give something back to the RSPCA by volunteering, because
they gave me back my best friend,” she said.
Michelle
said that except for helping RSPCA the way they helped
her, her other highlights have been making new friends.
“Being
able to meet new and interesting people, some of whom
are now friends, and being able to give something back
and being rewarded for it, is just amazing.”
