Dedicating her spare time to the community-based “We Care” Day Respite Centre in North Booval, Eleisha has displayed an exceptional character of care to the frail aged and disabled including many Aboriginal clientele. Eleisha has helped provide the development of friendships encouraging social interaction with other aged and disabled clients, staff and volunteers. She has the natural ability to help create a friendly home environment in which everyone feels comfortable and safe. In addition to offering her unconditional love, friendship and emotional support, Eleisha ensures individual needs are met by assisting the staff. She has learned to take blood sugar levels, check blood pressure and is now competent in the aid of reporting any health matters or concerns to staff. For the past two years, Eleisha has marched on ANZAC Day with the “We Care” constituency in representation of Indigenous Veterans who fought and died for their country. In recognition of her dedication and loyalty to the aged and disabled, Eleisha was awarded “Young Volunteer of the Year” by Rachel Nolan MP (Member for Ipswich) in 2001. Upon completing her schooling, Eleisha is keen to become a nurse or full time carer. |
