The Community Toolbox addresses a large range of issues within the
community and volunteer development sector. Chapters have multiple
sections, each with real life examples, related topics, tools and
checklists. There is also a trouble shooting guide, a community workstation
which outlines core community work such as grant applications and
strategic plans and a Learning Communities forum and chatroom. A very
well organised and comprehensive site well worth bookmarking.

This web site acts as a portal to other resources providing useful
resources and links in regard to volunteerism, effective management
practices, fundraising and aligning vision with strategy.
- Milano Non-profit Management Knowledge Hub.

This site is a hub for links to other sites in the non-profit sector
which have been rated and reviewed. It has very good sections for
leaders/managers of community development organisations and for managers
of non profits outside the U.S.
- The Free Management Library

This site provides extensive resources for profit and non-profit organisations.
An easy to follow layout with no fancy graphics just loads of useful
information including simple instructional sheets. It covers a vast
number of topics with sections related to leadership, strategic planning,
managing change, conflict management and group facilitation. It also
has pages on personal wellness issues, ethics and volunteers. Look
out for the sections on ‘Related links in the Library. Well
worth perusing.
- Niagara College Canada - Centre for Community Leadership

A Canadian based site that holds several sound resources for volunteer
staff which relate to human resources, leadership, planning and board
facilitation. Tools are accessible through a discussion board format,
in which papers, fact sheets and links can be accessed.
- EnergizeInc

This is an easy to navigate site catering especially to volunteer
leaders. It includes a Volunteer Management Library with books, e
books and web based articles and links related to volunteerism. It
has a section on collective wisdom highlighting issues such as providing
recognition, diversity and recruitment. It offers reflections to inspire
and also invites people to share their wisdom. You can join their
email list for monthly updates. Well worth a look.
- Communitybuilders (developed by the NSW government)

This site is one of the best we have found related to community leadership
and community organising anywhere. It’s a one stop shop and
portal to a world of highly relevant information. Organised into modules
each contains practical advice, tools and links to a comprehensive
array of resources. There is a wide cross section of case studies
and related readings for all types of communities. For example: The
section on Creating Stronger Communities looks at developing inclusive,
safe and healthy communities as well as vibrant and enterprising communities
whether these are related to specific issues, cultures or localities.
A site that gets you thinking about what’s possible it is also
very a worthwhile resource for capacity building of non government
organisations, community members, volunteers, leaders and managers
alike.
- Leadership Victoria

This site developed out of the Williamson Community Leadership program.
Here you will find diverse resources relating to leadership and leadership
development. The articles cover a very broad range of topics, including
the Victorian Koorie Community Leadership Program and volunteering.
There are book reviews and links to other resources as well as sections
on youth leadership and interviews with leaders.
- Communitywise (developed by the Western Australia government)

This community development website emphasises community economic development
with reference to WA communities and programs. That aside it has a
good section on how to run a participative strategic planning meeting
as well as very good information on developing submissions. It also
provides a structural and legal guide to community organisations.

This has several linked resources for non-profit organisations, covering
topics such as organisational development and planning, leadership
and management as well as boards and management.
- The Non Profit Centre

The FAQ section of is very well organised and easy to access. From
dozens of topic areas in five main sections you can find quick summary
responses to important question and issues. Need to know if there
is a conflict of interest in the board? These FAQ’s may point
the way though bear in mind the regulations relate to the U.S.
