Profile
Volunteering Australia Inc. is an incorporated body under the
Australian Capital Territory Associations Incorporation Act 1991.
It was established in October 1993 and received funding under the
National Secretariat Program in 1997.
Volunteering
Australia is governed by a board of seventeen members - the executive
director and a board representative from each of its eight member
organisations: Volunteering ACT, NSW, Victoria, Queensland, NT,
Tasmania, SA and WA, and the executive officer of VA. Regional volunteer
resource centres have their own standing committee established in
September 1998.Volunteer based organisations across all industries,
including welfare, environment and conservation, arts, business,
tourism, education, emergency services, health, sport, recreation
and leisure are linked to Volunteering Australia through their respective
state/territory peak bodies.

Profile
The International Association for Volunteer Effort was created in
1970 by a small group of women from throughout the world who shared
a common vision of how volunteers can contribute to the solution
of human and social problems and to the development of bridges of
understanding among people of all nations. They recognized the importance
of international exchange of information, best practices and mutual
support as away of encouraging and strengthening volunteering worldwide.
IAVE is the only international organization with the mission to promote, celebrate, and strengthen volunteerism worldwide.
The International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) was one of the original sources of the ideas that came together as the International Year of the Volunteers. Working in close cooperation with the United Nations Volunteers throughout 1997, IAVE built support among its members and their governments for the resolution offered by the government of Japan which resulted in the General Assembly's declaration of The International Year of Volunteers in 2001.
The International Board of Directors of IAVE made it their priority to give leadership to planning and celebration of the International Year of Volunteers. It's 16th biennial world conference was held January 2001 in the Netherlands as the official opening event of the year. IAVE continues to encourage its members to create and support national committees to give leadership to celebration of the year and continue to support efforts beyond IYV.
IAVE looks forward to working in close cooperation with all of those who share its belief in fundamental value of volunteering, both as a way to build free societies and as a way for individuals to lead more fulfilling and productive lives. We recognize and celebrate the right and responsibility of all people to voluntarily contribute their time, talent, and energy to address pressing human, social, economic and environmental problems and to build healthy communities.
Mission
The International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) is an
international non - government organisation that promotes, celebrates,
and strengthens volunteerism worldwide. IAVE has individual and
organisational members in some 80 countries around the world.
IAVE offers
a range of services and other benefits to members, including

• Exchange of experience
• Bi-annual world conference
• Regional conferences across the world
• Access to networks and contacts
Structure
IAVE has a Board of Directors, elected by its members in each region.
It also has National Representatives in over 40 countries worldwide
and a growing number of national associations.

IAVE World Conferences were held every other year and the membership grew steadily. |
1997 |
Working in close cooperation with the United Nations Volunteer Programme (UNV), IAVE built support among its members and their governments to resolution GA RES/52/17 offered by the government of Japan. This resulted in the General Assembly’s declaration of the International Year of Volunteers 2001 (IYV2001). |
2001 |
2001 IAVE’s members worldwide made a major contribution to IYV 2001. |

2002 IAVE’s Strategic Plan for 2002-2006 was published. IAVE was pleased to participate in the International Symposium on Volunteering (ISV2001) and a follow-up seminar in Bonn in June of 2002. |
2003 |
Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) have been established with CIVICUS, United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV) and the Association for Volunteer Administration (AVA), furthering IAVE’s commitment to work in partnership with other organizations. |
2005 |
Two projects are launched. The International Resource Centre is opened in February in Taiwan supported by the National Youth Commission of the Taiwan government and the African Research project which is supported by the UPS Foundation began in March and is studying two African countries’ volunteer development. |
