A. Stukas
Art Stukas, PhD, is a Senior Lecturer in Social Psychology at La Trobe
University.
With his colleagues, Professors Gil Clary and Mark Synder, he has written
numerous scholarly articles on volunteering. These articles present
research that takes a “functional approach” to study volunteer
behaviour, which emphasizes the reasons, purposes, goals and motivations
that people have for engaging in service.
Art received his PhD from the University of Minnesota in 1996 and has
been working at La Trobe University since 2000. He is an Associate (Individual)
Member of Volunteering Australia and an Affiliate of the Centre for
the Study of the Individual and Society at the University of Minnesota.
Art’s recent work has examined the effects of volunteering on
social capital and also the ways in which organisational structure may
influence the effects of ensuring that volunteers’; motivations
are matched with opportunities n the organisation or environment.
