1. Episodic Volunteering Workshop with Leonie Bryen

How to engage the new breed of volunteers and what it means for your existing volunteer program.
Episodic or project volunteers are increasing in our community as baby-boomers and students seek short-term ways to make a difference and then move on. Understanding and embracing short-term volunteers is a constant challenge. This seminar will offer an insight into how you can engage episodic volunteers in your organisation.

2. Marketplace - Speed Dating meets Wall Street

How can we encourage, support and assist corporate community engagement? Marketplace is an answer.
Marketplace is an event essentially designed as the coming together of corporates, not-for-profit organisations and community needs. This world-wide approach is coming to Brisbane (a first for Australia). This exciting event will provide training and information sessions for both corporates and community groups around corporate and community engagement. Corporate volunteering and specific opportunities and needs.

3. ‘Volunteer 1 in a Million’ - Breakfast

Venue: Broncos Leagues Club, Fulcher Road, Red Hill
Cost: 5 FREE volunteers per organisation & $25 per additional person

Volunteer recognition event – opportunity for community organisations to thank their volunteers. Innovative examples of volunteering will be presented during the breakfast as well as recognition addresses from the Minister for Communities, Hon. Lindy Nelson-Carr; and Minister for Emergency Services, Hon. Neil Roberts.

 

4. Volunteer Managers Forum with Arthur A. Stukas, PhD – La Trobe University

Why do people engage in volunteering; and why do they continue? Some answers to these critical volunteer management questions!
Drawing on functional theories about the reasons, purposes, and motivations underlying human behaviour, Arthur Stukas and his team at La Trobe University, have identified six personal and social functions potentially served by volunteering. In addition to developing an inventory to assess these motivational functions, the program of research has explored the role of motivation in the process of volunteering, especially decision about becoming a volunteering in the first place, and decision about continuing to volunteer. Be part of this stimulating presentation and discussion.

A charity walk with celebrities and politicians, to raise the profile of volunteering and fundraise for community charities in the Western suburbs. This event is sponsored by Quest Newspaper and will be broadcasted on 612 ABC Radio throughout the day.
