National Volunteer Week
Each year, community organisations across Australia take the opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous contribution volunteers make to our society. National Volunteer Week (NVW) is a thank you celebration, with a variety of volunteer recognition events such as dinners, lunches and awards ceremonies.
NVW is an initiative of Volunteering Australia, the national peak body for the states and territory volunteer centres. Since 1988, the week of celebration is held in May, and starts the Monday immediately after Mother’s Day. Promotional materials produced by Volunteering Australia are available for use by volunteer centres, community organisations, libraries, government and networks.
The theme for NVW 2010, 10-16 May is… ‘Volunteering: Now, more than ever’
This theme brings volunteering to the forefront and provides a focused
agenda for the volunteer sector. It will raise the profile of volunteering
and highlight that volunteering, now, more than ever, is important to
Australian society and the contribution of all volunteers must be recognised.
This theme can be used by groups to recruit 'Now more than ever we need
you' or recognise and thank 'Now more than ever we recognise and value
our volunteers'.
For the next three years, National Volunteer Week will be held on:
10 – 16 May 2010
09 – 15 May 2011
14 – 20 May 2012
