Skills Bank Information for Volunteers

Are you a skilled volunteer? Would you like to advertise the skills you are willing to contribute as a volunteer, and allow representatives of Community Organisations to contact you regarding volunteering opportunities?

Registering Skills

You will need to be registered as a volunteer with Volunteering Queensland’s on-line database to list your skills in Skills Bank.

All volunteers registering on-line will be prompted as to whether they would like to list their skills in Skills Bank. Checking the box and clicking “Next” will open a screen enabling you to document your skills and specifics on your availability.

Already registered volunteers, once logged on, can click on the “My Skills” link for details of skills listed and offers made by organisations. To create your first or an additional skill click on the “Add a New Skill” button.

You may only create one skill profile within a specific skill area, but you may create one or more additional skill profiles linked to other skill areas.

Modifying Skills

Your skill profile may be modified, suspended or cancelled on-line at any time. Click on the “My Skills” link in your volunteer profile and click in the “Action” or “Status” field .

Confidentiality

Your identity will be kept confidential up until the time you decide to express interest in an offered position. Up until that time, and including if you nominate to decline an offer, you will only be identified by a skill profile number.

View offers from organisations and accept or decline

When an organisation wishes to contact you regarding a volunteer opportunity, you will receive an automated email requesting that you log on to your user profile on the Volunteering Queensland website.

Follow these steps –

  • Click on the “My Skills” link, and view the details of the offer. (You should not reply to the automated email).
  • Click on the Job Name and Organisation Name to view the Job Details and Organisation Details.
  • Decide whether to accept or decline the offer.
  • Click on “Options”, then either the “Express Interest” or “Decline” button.

Should you decide to express interest in an offered opportunity, the Skills Bank system will generate an automated email to the organisation listing your name and contact details, and asking the organisation to contact you regarding an interview as soon as possible.

Each offer will be listed with a status. The status will initially be set as “Pending”. If you express interest, the status will automatically be changed to “Responded”. If you decline the offer, the status will automatically be changed to “Declined”. If you proceed to an interview for the offered position, once a decision is made, please return to your on-line Skills Bank history and update the status to either “Engaged” or “Cancelled”.

If you are engaged by an organisation, and you do not wish to be approached by other organisations during the period of engagement, you will also need to ensure that the status of your skill profile is made inactive for the period of the engagement.
